Learn 2 Row

Why Row

Rowing is an excellent way to achieve and maintain fitness in a low impact, safe approach.
Rowing is for anyone and everyone. Our club has members aged 8-80 and offers non competitive, recreational rowing or the opportunity to compete - you choose…

The Course

The course emphasis will be to
- have fun
- pass on basic rowing and watermanship skills
- enable you to progress to be either a recreational rower or a member of a squad
The course will consist of rowing outings, land-based sessions and use of the erg (rowing machine). There will be a social event for all those completing the course.

What to bring

Clothing for rowing needs to be fairly close fitting; anything which is baggy will get caught in the sliding seats or will catch on your hands. A light splash-proof top is quite useful. Bring a change of clothes and towel. Shoes should be flat soled and shouldn’t mind getting wet. Bring a water bottle to take into the boat.

A Learn 2 Row course for begins on Saturday 7th January at 10.00am and will be held for the next three saturdays after the aforemention date at the same time. Our ‘Learn to Row’ course is aimed at people who have never rowed before.

The course fee will include silver membership of British Rowing and a Learn 2 Row handbook which covers the basic rowing stroke and some of the jargon used within the sport. Your British Rowing membership will give you insurance cover, Rowing and Regatta magazine (published nine times a year and delivered to your door)and discounts at selected retail outlets.

At the end of the four sessions we hope that you will join Talkin Tarn Amateur Rowing Club and continue to row either as a recreational or competitive member.

The course will be led by a qualified coach ably assisted by other club members and during the course you will not only learn how to row but you will also learn the basics of boat handling and maintenance.

Participants should be able to swim at least 50 meters in light clothing and be in general good health.
